Transsion Holding’s subsidiary, Infinix will follow its sister brand Tecno to launch its first foldable smartphone which will be called the Zero Flip. Tecno launched its first foldable smartphone, the Phantom V Flip, in September last year, and now Infinix is set to do the same with the Zero Flip. This comes after the phone got certified by the FCC —meaning it’s likely going to launch in all markets where Infinix devices are currently sold including Uganda.

Infinix Zero Flip is expected to be unveiled soon as the company officially teased its arrival via X, however, the launch date and availability details weren’t revealed. Ahead of anything concrete, alleged promotional images of the foldable smartphone have surfaced online. The images suggest the design of the phone alongside some key features such as it will come with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It will also have two vertically aligned cameras integrated into cutouts from a big square cover display.

Promotional images of the handset have been leaked in a Facebook post by Queen Mobile, a Vietnam-based retailer. The phone is expected to come in Titanium Black and Pink colors —and per leaked images, the phone could have a 6.7-inch full-HD+ AMOLED main screen and a 3.64-inch AMOLED cover display. Both displays are tipped to support a 120Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The Infinix Zero Flip 5G will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8020 SoC. It is expected to run on Android 14-based XOS 14.5 powered by a non-removable 4,590mAh battery with 70W wired fast charging support. Connectivity options of the phone are expected to include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC.

The handset is expected to carry dual stereo speakers with support for DTS, Hi-Res Audio, and TUV certification.

For optics, the Infinix Zero Flip will likely be equipped with a dual rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 10.8-megapixel secondary sensor. The front camera is tipped to house a 12-megapixel sensor. The front and rear cameras are said to support 4K 30 FPS video recording.Preview (opens in a new tab)

These are all the specs that have been outed so far. Since Infinix plays the mid-range game, don’t expect this one to come with a flagship chipset or a high price.

The post Mistakes to Avoid Before Launching Your Smartphone Apps appeared first on PC Tech Magazine.

]]>
The world today is so mobile-centric and launching a successful smartphone app is a challenging endeavor. With millions of apps vying for users’ attention, it’s crucial to avoid common pitfalls that can derail your app’s success before it even hits the market. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or a budding entrepreneur, steering clear of these key mistakes can mean the difference between a triumphant launch and a disappointing flop.

We explore some of the mistakes developers must avoid before launching their smartphone apps —providing actionable insights and best practices to help you navigate the complex world of app development and launch with confidence.

Lack of proper research

Failing to conduct thorough market research and validate your app idea can lead to building something that doesn’t meet user needs or has low demand. Proper research helps identify the target audience, competition, market trends, and potential challenges.

Before embarking on app development, it’s crucial to thoroughly research and validate your idea. Start by analyzing the specific problem your app aims to solve and whether it offers an innovative solution that aligns with your business model. Neglecting this step can result in a product that fails to resonate with users or address their needs effectively.

During the research phase, define your potential user base by understanding their demographics, goals, motivations, and interests. This insight will help you tailor your app to meet their needs and expectations. Additionally, research your competitors to identify your unique value proposition and learn what users expect from similar apps.

Inadequate budget planning

Underestimating the development costs or failing to account for post-launch expenses like marketing and maintenance can strain your resources. Carefully plan and allocate a realistic budget for the entire app lifecycle.

Developing a mobile app involves various costs beyond just the development phase. The overall budget should account for design, user interface, testing, and ongoing maintenance expenses. Additionally, factor in costs for marketing and promoting your app to reach your target audience effectively.

The scope of your app will significantly impact the development time and cost. Complex apps with numerous features will require a larger budget and longer development cycles. Providing detailed materials, briefs, and research to your development team can help them provide more accurate cost estimates.

Poor communication and feedback

Ineffective communication between the development team, stakeholders, and potential users can result in misaligned expectations and a product that misses the mark. Encourage open communication and actively seek feedback throughout the development process.

Clear and consistent communication is crucial at every stage of app development. Establish open channels for sharing feedback, addressing concerns, and resolving doubts with your development team and stakeholders. Regularly communicate project updates, milestones, and any changes in requirements or scope.

Actively seek feedback from potential users throughout the development process. This can be achieved through user testing, surveys, or beta releases. Incorporating user feedback early on can help refine your app’s features, user experience, and overall design, increasing the chances of delivering a product that meets user expectations.

Feature overload

Packing too many features into the initial release can lead to a cluttered user experience, increased development time, and higher costs. Focus on building a minimum viable product (MVP) with essential features first, then iterate based on user feedback.

While it’s tempting to include every desired feature in your app’s initial release, this approach can backfire. An overloaded app with too many features can overwhelm users, leading to a cluttered and confusing user experience. Additionally, it can significantly increase development time and costs.

Instead, adopt the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approach. Start by building a core product with essential features that solve the primary user problem. This allows you to launch your app faster, gather user feedback, and iterate based on real-world usage data. Prioritize features based on user needs and add them in subsequent updates.

Neglecting testing and quality assurance

Skimping on thorough testing and quality assurance can result in a buggy app with poor performance, leading to negative reviews and high uninstall rates. Allocate sufficient time and resources for comprehensive testing across various devices and scenarios.

Testing and quality assurance are critical components of app development that should not be overlooked. Neglecting these steps can lead to a subpar product plagued by bugs, crashes, and performance issues, resulting in negative user experiences and poor reviews.

Allocate dedicated time and resources for comprehensive testing, including functional, usability, compatibility, and performance testing. Test your app across various devices, operating system versions, and usage scenarios to identify and rectify any issues before launch. Implement an iterative testing process throughout the development cycle to catch and address problems early on.

Ignoring user experience and design

A poorly designed app with a subpar user experience can quickly turn off users, regardless of its functionality. Prioritize intuitive design, usability, and a seamless user experience from the outset.

User experience (UX) and design are critical factors that can make or break your app’s success. Even the most feature-rich app can fail if it lacks an intuitive and user-friendly interface. Users expect a seamless and enjoyable experience from the moment they open your app.

Prioritize UX and design from the outset by involving UX experts and designers in the early stages of development. Ensure your app adheres to platform-specific design guidelines and best practices for navigation, layout, and user interactions. Conduct usability testing to identify and address any pain points or areas of confusion for users.

Also read:

Lack of security and privacy measures

Failing to implement robust security and privacy measures can put user data at risk and erode trust in your app. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices for data protection and security.

In today’s digital landscape, security, and privacy are paramount concerns for users. Failing to address these aspects can have severe consequences, including data breaches, legal implications, and a loss of user trust.

Implement robust security measures to protect user data, such as encryption, secure authentication, and secure communication protocols. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), depending on your target markets.

Communicate your app’s privacy policies and data handling practices to users, fostering transparency and building trust. Stay up-to-date with industry best practices for security and privacy, and regularly update your app to address any vulnerabilities or emerging threats.

By avoiding these mistakes, you can increase the chances of delivering a successful and well-received mobile app that meets user expectations and achieves your business goals. Note that launching an app is just the beginning —continuous improvement/updates, user feedback, and adaptation to market trends are essential for long-term success in the highly competitive mobile app landscape.

In the vast macrocosm of mobile gaming, many titles manage to capture the imagination of players relatively like Star Wars Galaxy of Icons (SWGOH). Boasting an extensive canon of characters from the Star Wars saga, strategic gameplay, and a thriving community, SWGOH has become the foundation of the mobile gaming geography. One aspect that adds depth and excitement to the SWGOH experience is the Webstore, a digital business where players can acquire colorful in-game particulars and coffers. In this composition, we claw into the SWGOH Webstore, exploring its immolations and the impact it has on the game.

The basics of the SWGOH Webstore

The SWGOH Webstore serves as a mecca where players can buy various particulars using in-game currency or real plutocrats. These particulars range from character shards and gear pieces to packets and exclusive packs. The Webstore is accessible directly from within the game, furnishing players with accessible access to a treasure trove of delicacies to enhance their gameplay experience.

Character shards erecting your dream

Team One of the primary lodestones of the SWGOH Webstore is the vacuity of character shards. In SWGOH, characters are uncorked and upgraded by collecting their shards, which are attained through colorful in-game conditioning similar to battles, events, and now, the Webstore. Players can browse through a rotating selection of character shards in the Webstore, allowing them to acquire shards for their favorite characters or bones they are presently fastening on. Whether you aim to bolster your revolutionary team with shards for Han Solo or strengthen your Sith lineup with Darth Vader shards, the Webstore offers an accessible way to progress and diversify your canon.

Gear and coffers powering up your squad

In addition to character shards, the SWGOH Webstore offers a plethora of gear pieces and coffers to prop players in enhancing their outfits. From stun ordnance and carbonites to capability accouterments and credits, the Webstore is grazed with particulars essential for leveling up characters, adding their power, and unleashing new capacities. Whether you require gear to gear up your tanks for the frontline or coffers to boost the energy of your support characters, the Webstore has you covered. Players can efficiently cache gear and coffers by taking advantage of pack offers and special elevations, ensuring they are always prepared for the coming challenge that awaits them in the world.

Packets and packs value and variety

For players looking to get the most bang for their money, the SWGOH Webstore offers a multifariousness of packets and packs that give excellent value and exclusive prices. These packets frequently contain a combination of character shards, gear pieces, credits, and other precious particulars at blinked prices compared to copping them collectively. Also, some packs offer exclusive characters or skins not available through other means, making them largely coveted among players. Whether you are a free-to-play sucker looking to accelerate your progress or a seasoned fritterer seeking to bolster your collection, there is a pack or pack in the Webstore suited to your requirements and budget.

Community impact and contestation

While the SWGOH Webstore adds depth and convenience to the game, it has not been without its fair share of contestation. Like numerous free-to-play mobile games, SWGOH utilizes a microtransaction model, allowing players to buy in-game currency and particulars with real plutocrats. This has led to enterprises about pay-to-palm mechanics and the eventuality of creating an imbalance within the game’s competitive geography. Also, some players have blamed the pricing of certain packets and packs in the Webstore, citing them as prohibitively precious and feeding primarily to high-spending players.

Despite these exams, the SWGOH community remains flexible and devoted, with numerous players changing ways to enjoy the game without feeling compelled to spend exorbitantly. The inventors behind SWGOH have also taken the initiative to address community feedback and enterprises, enforcing changes to ameliorate the overall player experience and ensure a fair and balanced gameplay terrain.

Conclusion: A Galaxy of openings

The SWGOH Webstore serves as a vital element of the SWGOH experience, offering players an accessible avenue to acquire character shards, gear, and coffers to enhance their gameplay. While it may not be without its difficulties, the Webstore provides players with the inflexibility to progress at their own pace and knitter their experience to suit their preferences and playstyles. Whether you are a casual player looking to bolster your collection or a competitive sucker fighting for supremacy in the world, the SWGOH Webstore has merchandise for everyone.

]]>
Infinix last week unveiled its NOTE 40 series in Uganda and were officially announced in the market by the State Minister of Finance for Investment, and Privatization, Hon. Anite Evelyn. The series comes in four variants but only three are available in the Ugandan market — the NOTE 40, the NOTE 40 Pro, and the NOTE 40 Pro+ which succeeded the NOTE 30 series that were officially launched in May 2023 but made available in Uganda in June.

We got the NOTE Pro+ for review which is quite similar to its predecessor the NOTE 30 VIP but with a few tweaks. What you get in the box;

The design packaging is the same throughout the Infinix smartphones. The bundle comes with the Infinix NOTE 40 series smartphone — in this case; the NOTE 40 Pro+, and its accessories including a 20W MagPad for wireless charging, a phone case that is compatible with the MagPad, a screen protector, Type-C earphones, USB Type-C charging & data cable, and a 100-watt fast-charging brick. The version of the NOTE 40 Pro+ we got comes with a leather-style texture finish at the back in Vintage Green — but it also comes in titan gold color.

  • Connectivity: 5G; Dual Nano-SIM, Wi-Fi 5; Bluetooth 5, and NO 3.5mm earphone jack.
  • Misc: Fingerprint reader (under the display), and stereo speaker tuned by JBL.

Build, Design, and Display

It is interesting to see Infinix changing its design and aesthetic to look a bit fresh. The NOTE 40 Pro+ has a respectable skinny finish compared to its predecessor which had a flat design which many I believe will find more practical when it comes to gripping the phone.

The phone is built with a plastic frame, and at the back, you get a leather-style texture making the phone more interesting because it adds a nice bit of grip and because of the leather finish the phone doesn’t get all smudgy. At the back, you have the camera housing which is rather large and stretches almost to the other end of the phone which is not particularly ugly. On top of the phone, you have the IR blaster and a signage of the JBL logo to indicate that the speakers are by JBL. At the bottom you have the SIM card tray with no MicroSD card support, and a USB Type-C charging port — and the port will also be used for your earphones, the company discontinued the earphone jack and there’s a chance we shall see this on more of its devices in the coming times.

The Infinix NOTE 40 Pro+ is IP53, dust and splash-resistant. You get it a bit wet but don’t go and dip it in a pool of water.

Infinix slimmed the design so it has reasonable skinny bezels and not so much wasted space. This gives you a 6.78-inch display and if you have huge hands it fits perfectly — in other words, you get the grip tight. Unfortunately, it does not support a one-handed mode you will struggle most of the time especially when you try to reach up to the top of the display, thus you have to use two hands so as you don’t fumble with it one-handed.

The phone comes with a nice 1080p AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a high brightness mode which Infinix is rating up to 1300 nits. It is a nice punch bright display and you get better outdoor readability. That’s to say, on the maximum brightness level, you will have no trouble with outdoor visibility.

The NOTE 40 Pro+ comes with a nice color profile where you can switch up the look and feel of your display. You can change the color tones which Infinix has been trying its best to add some of these lifestyle and quality features to their phones considering that they are coming at lower price points.

The phone does come with a phone casing that you can clip on your phone and it won’t affect or cover the sides of the phone so they remain exposed and generally keep the profile of the phone similar to when it doesn’t have the cover on the only downside with the case is that it does not protect the edges of the phones

Next to the cameras, the phone has a halo-colorful light system that can be used for notification alerts. (Notification lights are a bit rare on today’s smartphones but it is good to see Infinix making a bit of effort with this old-school feature). By default, the feature comes turned off and many might not know it but it can be adjusted in the setting. To do so, open the Settings app >> Active halo lighting >> Select the features you like for your notification.

Memory, Software, and Performance

The NOTE 40 pro+ is stuffed with the Mediatek Dimensity 7020 chipset backed by 12 GB of RAM making the phone a little bit snappier and more performant than its predecessor and gets a slightly higher tier of work done even when you’re using lots of apps (multitasking) at the same time. The phone runs on Android 14 and the XOS launcher is slathered on top which tweaks Android quite a considerable amount

Infinix has completely cleaned up their UI which is now a heavy and aggressive skin. The layout is smooth— everything is flowing (swiftly) the way we should expect it to with no lagging.

On gaming, the phone did a decent job. There were no dropped frames nor were the games slowing down and for such an inexpensive phone there’s a lot of potential considering that it is using sort of a lower power MediaTek chipset, however, for best performance, it is best to stick to medium-level frame rates when gaming. In addition, Infinix’s XOS gives you a gaming mode feature to boost your gaming — you can adjust everything from speed to framerates, and display, among others.

There’s no MicroSD card support, but the phone comes with an onboard storage of 256GB enough for you to install apps, and store all your media including songs, photos, and videos, to mention a few.

Cameras

Nothing has changed much from the predecessor, you get a trio setup; 108MP + 2MP + 2MP shooters at the back with OIS. At the front, you get a 32MP shooter. The camera app is packed with features and modes that you can play around with to enhance your photos. Even though there’s OIS, photos and video appear pretty shakey — it is not fully stabilized as we thought hopefully Infinix would fix it in its upcoming devices.

The cameras have improved with the night mode photography which can be switched up to super night mode photography the photos appear much better and are usable. The dedication night mode brightens the photos. In ambient light, the photos fall a bit but in well-set light environments, the photos are decent with reasonably accurate color reproduction and sharpness.

When it comes to videos, you get to shoot and get quad-HD videos and surprisingly they are good. You shoot videos in Full HD resolution by default but you can also push that to 2K and unfortunately, that is how it goes, so no 4K.

Battery life and power management

This is the phone’s headliner and one of the major upgrades is the charging speeds. The phone comes with a slightly smaller battery, 4,600mAh compared to its predecessor which came with 5,000mAh. So far during our use, the battery life was frankly excellent which can even see the most demandant of power users through a full day of intensive use on a single charge.

The charging part is the most interesting bit of all for this phone. The phone charges fast thanks to its 100-watt fast charging, this is fundamentally one of the most exciting upgrades to see. Getting your phone charged that fast in about 10 minutes and getting almost a whole day of runtime —takes a lot of that battery anxiety off your plate.

The NOTE 40 Pro+ also has 20-watt wireless charging and supports reverse wireless charging which you can use to top up the battery of your friends’ phones. For this, the NOTE 40 Pro+ comes with what the company calls a “MagPad” which lines up with the circles on the phone casing magnetly to wireless charge your phone.

The 20-watt wireless charging support is quite rare to find around mid-range devices but it is good to see that Infinix did it and hopefully, this is embedded in their future phones as well.

For power management, Infinix has stuffed in the phone its new Cheetah X1 charge management to help prevent overcharging-type situations. You can set this as well as other charging management solutions in Setting >> Battery >> Charging >> Here you can adjust the charging speeds, and bypass charging to prevent the battery from overcharging and to keep the phone from heating up.

Honorable Mention: JBL’s Speakers
While I was excited to see JBL back on the NOTE series, I thought they would be an improvement but I was wrong. The sound is a bit hollow —there’s some little distortion of the sound at max volume. However, the sound remains pretty decent, hopefully, this will be improved in the next NOTE series.

The phone doesn’t come with the standard 3.5mm earphone jack and now supports USB Type-C earphones that are plug-in to where you charge from. So you will no longer be able to charge your phone and simultaneously use your earphones and the only way to opt for this is if you use wireless earbuds.

The company discontinuing the earphone jack, I would say this is a nice admission that Infinix removed something from the phone itself so even on less expensive phones like the NOTE 40 Pro+.

Verdict
The Infinix NOTE series has become one of those phones you would look forward to every year. This time, the company showed a different style, aesthetic, and combination of features. For UGX1,497,000 it is not difficult to find a phone that might outperform the NOTE 40 Pro+ but often then you can make other compromises for those companion and lifestyle features and you see that the NOTE 40 Pro+ is a smartphone that you can opt for in that price range.

Therefore, with a few tweaks/upgrades and the general software setup aside, the NOTE 40 Pro+ is pretty much a decent phone. The battery life and charging is excellent, the performance is good enough, the photos are decent and usable, among others.

The company also has a Premier version, the Camon 30 Premier but was announced in the market.

In his remarks, Timmy Shen; Tecno Brand Manager said, “We’re thrilled to introduce the new Camon 30 Series, a testament to Tecno’s unwavering dedication to delivering state-of-the-art technologies for our valued users.” He added “Incorporating flagship imaging technologies and advanced AI functions, the new series reflects the bold strides Tecno is taking to explore new possibilities while pushing for more premium experiences.”

Once again the phones are headlined by their cameras and stylish design —and according to the company, the phones will empower users to take a leading role in life through professional-level imaging and exquisite, stylish design. Well, if a user prioritizes exceptional camera experiences and stylish design, the Camon 30 series delivers exactly that; camera and design.

Compared to its predecessor, the Camon 20 series, the company made changes in the build, display, memory, cameras, and charging system from 33W to 70W, and as advertised by Tecno you can charge from 0%-100% in 50 minutes.

All modes come with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display and unlike the Camon 30 Pro (5G) and Camon 30 which have a refresh rate of 120Hz, the Camon 30 Pro (5G) has a 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, they come with an Octa-core processor, an Android 14 operating system (with HIOS 14) — a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset for the Camon 30 Pro (5G), MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset for the Camon 30 (5G), and MediaTek Helio G99 Ultimate chipset for the Camon 30. Camon 30’s MediaTek Helio G99 is ideal for everyday tasks and casual gaming while the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate and MediaTek Dimensity 7020 are ideal for demanding applications & multitasking without lags, and enable 5G connectivity for ultrafast internet speeds.

The Camon 30 and Camon 30 (5G) come with a dual setup with 50MP and 2MP sensors while the Pro has a trio setup with two 50MP sensors and a 2MP sensor. Unlike the Camon 30 and Camon 30 (5G) which shoot up to 1080p videos, the Pro shoots up to 4K at 30fps. At the front, all the models come with a 50MP front camera and can record videos in 1080p at 30fps.

All modes are powered by a 5,000mAh battery and support fast charging — with 70W as advertised you can charge from 0%-100% in under 50 minutes.

Notably, since the company removed the headphone jack, all the models come with Tecno’s TWS earbuds. The earbuds are water-resistant and can work for 35 hours on a single charge.

Tecno has also partnered with over 7,000+ brands and now the Camon 30 series can do more than just being a phone. With these partnerships, the phone can be used as a remote to control your TV, sound system, air conditioning, and lighting, to mention a few.

The phones are headlined by their charging capability in addition to the 108MP cameras, huge onboard storage, MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset that will boost the performance, and Corning Gorilla Glass. Notably, the phones have a dedicated Cheetah X1 chip, handling charging processes. The chip delivers what Infinix brands All-Round FastCharge 2.0, which reportedly can reach 260W wired and 110W wireless charging, but the announcement revealed that the X1 will support only 100W rates in the current devices.

According to the company, the Infinix Cheetah X1 chip optimizes the charging rates to protect the battery’s health. There’s real-time monitoring, ensuring a balance between speed and temperature, extending the life of the battery. The platform also provides charging scenarios for wired, wireless, reverse wired, and reverse wireless charging, including battery handling during the night or in extreme temperatures.

Magnetic charging will support other devices and aims to establish a cohesive ecosystem of accessories for easier and faster wireless charging.

The post How To Choose Smartphones With Senior-Friendly Features appeared first on PC Tech Magazine.

]]>
Almost 97 percent of Americans have a mobile device, and nine in ten own a smartphone. That’s a notable increase from the 35 percent recorded in Pew Research Center’s first survey of smartphone ownership in 2011.

Although seniors are less likely than the younger generation to own a smartphone, the same survey indicates that 16 percent of adults aged 65 and above rely on this mobile device. Meanwhile, 14 percent of those between 50 and 64 depend on them as well.

Smartphones are helpful for this demographic, especially for their health and safety. For instance, they enable seniors to call for help or contact healthcare providers during emergencies.

Many smartphones are available on the market. But finding one that’s best for seniors can be tricky, mainly if you’re not accustomed to this technology. Here, we’ll walk you through essential features to look for when choosing smartphones for seniors.

Large display options

A smartphone with a large display ensures seniors can see everything on the screen. Otherwise, they might struggle to read messages and receive calls. Thankfully, many smartphones have a zoom feature that enables users to modify the text size on the screen.

Meanwhile, a bigger screen featuring larger icons and text will improve visibility and make it easier to use. It also lowers the risk of unintentional presses and enhances touchscreen accuracy. This feature can contribute to a more seamless user experience.

Voice commands

Voice commands enable seniors to interact with the device hands-free and intuitively. This feature is beneficial, especially for those struggling with fine motor skills. Using voice commands to operate the smartphone can benefit seniors with visual impairments.

With voice commands, seniors can quickly call emergency support lines if unable to dial manually. They can also use it to perform routine tasks, such as scheduling appointments. Some smartphones allow users to dictate complete message responses and have the device read incoming texts aloud.

Hearing aid compatibility

Seniors with hearing impairments will need a smartphone compatible with their hearing aids. Hearing aids with Bluetooth compatibility can connect to most smartphones. Still, check if the device is compatible with your loved one’s hearing aid.

Moreover, the accessibility features in smartphones offer high-definition voice, enhancing clarity during phone calls, multimedia playback, and video calls. It’s essential to consider this so seniors can access important information and remain connected with loved ones without struggling to hear.

Intuitive navigation

Seniors may struggle to navigate a complex interface. When looking for a smartphone for seniors, find a simple interface and an easy-to-navigate screen. This feature makes it easier for them to call or locate the apps they need.

Remember, intuitive navigation is as essential as easy readability. You can use a launcher to make the phone more senior-friendly. It can customize the phone’s interface with a look, layout, and features that better suit the needs of seniors.

Health app support

Finding a smartphone that supports various health apps, from checking blood sugar levels to keeping up with nutrition, is vital. Ensure the device can sync with the specific apps that can help your senior loved one monitor health.

For instance, some apps will provide medical alert reminders. They will make the phone vibrate or beep to inform the senior it’s time to take medication.

More elements to consider;

When selecting smartphones for seniors, considerations go beyond the newest features and sleek designs. The good news is that numerous options are available to accommodate this demographic’s wide range of needs.

Below are more elements to consider when searching for senior-friendly features in a smartphone. They can make a notable impact on the usability of a smartphone for a senior.

Entertainment options

It’s common for seniors to feel both isolated and bored. For this reason, a smartphone with several entertainment options can be a valuable feature.

Whether listening to music, watching videos, or playing games, these activities can help make seniors feel happier and less lonely. It can provide an instant remedy for their boredom as well as an avenue for social connection and mental stimulation.

Camera capabilities

The smartphone’s camera capabilities are necessary, too. A high-resolution camera can be useful, especially for seniors who enjoy taking pictures of grandchildren, friends, and places they visit. Besides capturing special moments, it lets them stay connected with loved ones through video calls.

Battery life

Seniors may rely on their smartphones for communication, entertainment, and safety. Hence, considering the battery life of these devices is imperative.

Ensure the phone’s battery doesn’t run out too often, so seniors don’t have to worry about charging all the time. Remember, they may not always have access to charging stations. Some may have mobility issues, making it harder to charge their phones frequently.

This makes smartphones with a reliable battery life crucial. It guarantees uninterrupted usage, allowing seniors to enjoy their favorite activities and access emergency services when needed.

Scam protection

Equally important is a scam protection feature. These days, numerous scams are targeting vulnerable seniors. They may become victims of government impersonation, tech support, romance, or lottery scams.

Look for a phone with call-blocking features. It’s also wise to consider phone carriers that provide services to help seniors ward off robocalls and scammers. Still, educate your senior loved ones about not sharing personal details with strangers.

Make an excellent choice for your senior loved one

While many seniors can use a basic smartphone with minimal to no difficulty, others may find additional features beneficial. However, the needs of each individual are different. So take the time to assess what your loved one needs and prefers before you begin shopping for them.

Consider checking out brands specifically designed for seniors. Due to increasing demand, many companies are centering their business model around seniors. These brands are starting to produce senior-friendly phones with assistive technology, so you have more options.
