Huawei Mate XT Launch Highlights Resilience Amid U.S. Sanctions, Challenges Apple in China https://pctechmag.com/2024/09/huawei-mate-xt-launched-a-day-after-apple-launched-its-iphone-16/ Wed, 11 Sep 2024 15:15:23 +0000 https://pctechmag.com/?p=79475 Huawei has made a comeback to the high-end smartphone segment releasing devices powered by HarmonyOS chip, defying U.S. sanctions that have cut off its access to the global chipset supply chain.

The post Huawei Mate XT Launch Highlights Resilience Amid U.S. Sanctions, Challenges Apple in China appeared first on PC Tech Magazine.

China’s Huawei Technologies unveiled their anticipated first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT, a day after Apple launched its iPhone 16 series.

“Today we bring you a product that everyone can think of but could not make. Our team has been working hard for five years and has never given up,” Huawei Executive Director Richard Yu said at the launch. “Today we will once again rewrite the history of the industry, turn science fiction into reality, and lead a new era of folding devices.”

Huawei Mate XT pricing starts at CNY 19,999 (approx. UGX10.5 million) for the base model with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage. The handset will also be available in 512GB and 1TB storage variants priced at CNY 21,999 (approx. UGX11.5 million) and CNY 23,999 (approx. UGX12.6 million), respectively.

The foldable tri-fold smartphone comes in Dark Black and Rui Red color options and can be pre-ordered via Huawei Vmall and will go on sale in China starting September 20 —the same date as the iPhone 16 series —and according to the company’s website, they have already received more than 4 million pre-orders, for which no deposit is required.

But with this hefty price tag —which is more than twice the starting price of the comparable iPhone 16 Pro Max —and limited production, the tri-fold phone is likely to become more of a symbol of Huawei’s tech prowess than a major sales driver, analysts said, reports by Reuters.

“Production constraints and the high price point mean the new phone will likely not have a huge impact in terms of shipments,” said Will Wong, a Senior Researcher at consultancy IDC. Adding “But it’s telling the consumers that Huawei is still the tech leader and the potential challenge it brings to Apple may be far beyond just market share.”

Specifications and features

The Huawei Mate XT comes with a 10.2-inch OLED display screen. The company says the display is made of flexible materials that can be bent in multiple directions. When folded, it has a 10.2-inch screen that turns into a 7.9-inch screen when folded once, and a 6.4-inch screen when folded a second time. At 3.6mm wide, Huawei said the tri-fold smartphone is the world’s slimmest foldable phone and has a keyboard attachment that fits in your pocket.

The Huawei Mate XT comes with dual-SIM (Nano+Nano) support and runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 mobile operating system. Under the hood, the tri-fold smartphone comes with a Kirin 9010 7nm chipset, octa-core processor, Maleoon 910 GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB (also available in 512GB, and 1TB) onboard storage.

It comes with a triple outer camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The primary and telephoto cameras come with optical image stabilization (OIS). As for the front, there’s an 8-megapixel camera housed in a center-aligned hole-punch cutout on the display. Both cameras can shoot videos in 1080p and 4k.

The Huawei Mate XT is equipped with a non-removable Si/C 5,600mAh battery —with supports for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging —as well as 7.5W reverse wireless and 5W reverse wired charging.

As for connectivity, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate includes 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB 3.1 Type-C port.

There’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

The launch of the Huawei Mate XT underscores Huawei’s ability to navigate U.S. sanctions and solidifies its position against Apple in China.

According to IDC, the foldable smartphone market grew 57% year-on-year in the second quarter with 3.9 million units shipped, largely as Chinese smartphone makers pushed into overseas markets. “That remains just 1.3% of the wider smartphone market, with 292.2 million smartphones shipped in the second quarter,” IDC said.

Huawei ranked as the world’s biggest foldable smartphone seller in the second quarter with a 27.5% market share, ahead of South Korea’s Samsung, with 16.4%, according to IDC.

Apple ‘Glowtime’ Event: iPhone 16s, Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 Launched alongside the A18, A18 Pro Chipsets https://pctechmag.com/2024/09/apple-launches-its-iphone-16-watch-series-10-and-airpods-4/ Mon, 09 Sep 2024 21:45:02 +0000 https://pctechmag.com/?p=79456 From Apple's 'Glowtime Event' ...

The post Apple ‘Glowtime’ Event: iPhone 16s, Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 Launched alongside the A18, A18 Pro Chipsets appeared first on PC Tech Magazine.

]]>
Apple at its Glowtime Event held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California officially launched the iPhone 16, Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 —which will all be available in stores starting September 20th with pre-orders starting today except for the iPhone 16 Pros —which starts on Friday.

The event was kicked off by Apple CEO, Tim Cook live from Apple Park —as he commenced the event with a focus specifically on Apple Intelligence and its capabilities. He called upon the company’s COO, Jeff Williams to introduce the latest smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10 which comes in two variants. Jeff revealed that the series is slimmer than its predecessor, but features a larger OLED display that is up to 40% brighter when viewed at an angle, making it easier to glance at information, while still offering the digital crown and the physical button on the right side of the watch.

Under the hood, the Apple Watch Series 10 is powered by a new S10 chipset with a four-core neural engine which according to Apple is 30 percent smaller. With a new change in design, users can now play music and podcasts directly on their smartwatch using the built-in speaker if they don’t have their AirPods.

Water resistance was upgraded and a new depth gauge automatically comes on when you dive into the water, allowing you to go down up to 5m. Apple says the smartwatches are perfect for snorkeling and are even getting the Oceanic+ app.

The watches support the fastest charging yet, you can get up to 80 percent of the charge achieved in just 30 minutes.

Apple Watch Series 10 with the GPS model starts at $399, and the GPS+Cellular one is $100 more while the Ultra 2 starts at $799. Pre-orders have commenced, and they will be available for purchase starting September 20th.

AirPods 4

Apple went on to introduce the next product, the AirPods 4 which comes in two variants; standard AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The AirPods 4 are touted as the best-sounding non-Pro AirPods and the most comfortable ones. Apple has used special mapping technology to examine a large pool of users’ ears and make the earpods more comfortable.

The AirPods 4 are powered by Apple’s H2 chip and feature a new acoustic architecture which is claimed to improve sound quality. AirPods 4 also offer personalized spatial audio, adaptive audio, and conversational awareness.

The case has also been revamped and Apple says it’s the lightest and most portable one yet. With the said case, the buds can go for 30 hours of continuous playback, so no compromises in battery life. The case also gets a small speaker so you can find your AirPods 4 easily or notify you of incoming calls, for example. Right next to the speaker, Apple has added a USB-C connector for charging. Now, the AirPods can be charged wired or wirelessly.

As for the pricing, the standard AirPods 4 without ANC will go for $129 and the ANC version will ask for $179. Pre-orders have commenced, and they will be available for purchase starting September 20th.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

As expected not much has changed compared to its predecessor. Starting with the display, the panels are the same size as before, 6.1-inch for the iPhone 16 and 6.7-inch for the iPhone 16 Plus. They still run at 60Hz and can go from 2,000 nits in the sun to as low as 1 nit in the dark. According to Apple, the latest Ceramic Shield protection is 50% tougher than the original formulation and is twice as tough as the strengthened glass used by other phones.

The big upgrade is the Apple A18 chipset, which is two generations ahead of what the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus had, A16. This is a second-gen 3nm chip that is both more powerful and more efficient. The bionic chip is 30% faster than the iPhone 15 CPU and 60% faster than the iPhone 12 CPU. The GPU is 40% faster than the iPhone 15 and twice as fast as the iPhone 12. The iPhone 16 can offer the same CPU as the iPhone 15 performance while using 30% less power and the same GPU performance while using 35% less power. Apple also improved the system memory bandwidth by 17%.

The 48MP main camera hasn’t changed much, what has changed is the imaging pipeline behind it. Apple has introduced an intermediate mode that captures 24MP photos —they offer more detail than 12MP shots combined with smaller file sizes than 48MP images. There is a new ultra-wide camera —it’s the same 12MP module as last year’s Pros. It has autofocus, which enables a macro mode. Also, the brighter lens allows it to capture 2.6x more light than before for better nighttime images.

As for video, it can record 4K video with Dolby Vision at 60fps. The new AI features also include wind noise reduction for videos. There’s no dedicated telephoto lens yet, but instead the main camera and processing pipeline offer 2x zoom with optical quality at 12MP or you could choose a high-resolution 48MP option.

The two new models will be available from September 20, pre-orders will start this Friday. Both phones have 128GB base storage and you are looking at the same prices as last year —the iPhone 16 starts at $800 and the iPhone 16 Plus at $900.

58 countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, Turkiye, the UAE, the U.K., and the U.S. are in the first wave to get the new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus on September 20. The second wave of countries includes Macao, Vietnam, and 19 other countries and regions and they will get the new iPhones starting from Friday, September 27.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

These are Apple’s most top-notch smartphones and are powered by the top-of-the-line A18 Pro chip, which also powers the new Apple Intelligence features that are part of iOS 18. The new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max also feature larger displays than their predecessors. The iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max goes to 6.9-inch.

The A18 Pro is built on a 3nm process and has a new 16-core Neural Engine. There’s a 17% increase in total system memory bandwidth, which also benefits the 6-core GPU which is up to 20% faster than the previous generation. The new 6-core CPU is “the fastest in a smartphone”, boasting two performance cores and four efficiency cores that can run the same workload as the iPhone 15 Pro 15% faster while using 20% less power.

Both iPhone 16 Pro models are equipped with a triple rear camera setup that comprises a 48-megapixel wide primary camera, an upgraded 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera, and a ‘tetraprism’ periscope lens that offers up to 5x optical zoom performance. In the front, you have a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera for taking video calls and capturing selfies.

The phones also support 4K 120fps recording.

The two Pro iPhone 16s will be available in black titanium, natural titanium, white titanium, and desert titanium. Pre-orders will start on September 13, and they will become available on September 20 for $999 and up for the Pro and $1,199 and up for the Pro Max.

In addition to the Action button that replaced the mute switch last year, Apple has equipped the new iPhone 16 series with a touch-sensitive Camera Control button that can be used to quickly launch the camera.

Kindred Announces Shutdown of Unibet and Other Brands in Norway https://pctechmag.com/2024/08/kindred-forced-to-cease-its-operations-in-norway/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 07:20:26 +0000 https://pctechmag.com/?p=78036 In an unexpected development, Kindred announced the withdrawal of its brands (mainly Unibet) from the Norwegian market. In an unexpected development, Kindred announced the withdrawal of its brands (mainly Unibet) from the Norwegian market. This may sound like a big surprise for those unfamiliar with Norwegian legislation. It is indeed unusual for a successful company like Kindred to withdraw from a seemingly liberal market like that of this Scandinavian country. Moreover, Norway is a country where online gambling has immense popularity, with close to $300 million in revenue for 2023. So, yeah, there’s some serious playing going on there.

However, several events took place in these few years, leading to Kindred being forced to accept specific rules imposed by the Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet (the national gambling regulatory agency) or leave the market.

After several years of legal battle, which we are sure included elements of lobbying at the political level, the result is known. This won’t go down well with players since Kindred sites are popular. Also, the company will lose a significant source of money. In Norway, on the other hand, the greatest dissatisfaction can be felt by the media, which received high sums of money for advertising by this company.

What Does This Mean for Kindred

Kindred Group (ex. Unibet Group) was founded in 1997. This is one of the biggest European online gambling operators. This Malta-based company has branches in several locations, including the UK, US, and Sweden. Interestingly, Kindred Group is listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

Regarding Kindred’s revenue, this company had over 1 billion dollars in the past few years. The question now is whether the decision of the Norwegian gambling authority will significantly affect revenue starting in 2024. They are having an easier time operating their business under other licenses, which is why they most likely went into this “pros and cons” mode, where operators have also done their homework and decided to go for what’s best for them and their users, be it your occasional slot machines players, or more regular sportsbook fanatics.

Even though Kindred didn’t share the information about its revenues in this market, Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet revealed that Trannel, Kindred’s subsidiary managing its operations in Norway, had an annual gross profit of around 40 million dollars in 2021.

So, we can’t say that this move will ruin Kindred, but it will impact its profit. That is something that Henrik Tjarnstrom, Kindred’s CEO at the time, said back in January 2023. Namely, he mentioned the company’s problems in Norway as one of the reasons their profits were lower than expected (the new limits on the Belgian market and the FIFA World Cup were mentioned as other reasons).

Of course, strengthening its position in the European and Australian markets is another essential element of its business strategy. When it comes to the US and Canada markets, it is a major component in the expansion plans. Unlike in Europe, where in some countries you can work without a national license (as was the case with Norway until a while ago), the rules are much stricter in the USA and Canada.

Through Unibet, Kindred Group is currently present in the Canadian province of Ontario and the US states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Interestingly, the management emphasizes that the expansion of the North American market is focused on slow progress, which means that they are not in a race to secure licenses in as many states and provinces as possible in the shortest time. This cautious approach is wise because too many big players are in this heavily regulated space.

What Can Kindred Learn from its Norwegian Adventure

The saga of Kindred in Norway began in April 2019. That’s the period in which Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet, the Norwegian gambling regulatory body, decided to tighten the rules.

Online casinos that had licenses from other countries and bodies (Malta Gaming Authority, UK Gambling Commission, etc.) were tolerated in Norway for a long time. They operated without a license, but players could make deposits and withdrawals without problems.

One of the reasons this happened was the inability of the regulatory body to impose bans on financial transactions, access to domains, advertising, etc.

With the legal changes of 2019, Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet received greater powers and finally got the opportunity to communicate on an equal footing with foreign casino operators such as Kindred Group, which, as we said through Trannel International and Unibet, was one of the leading casinos in Norway.

Kindred Group.
Kindred Group.

Instead of accepting the demands, Kindred Group sought justice through the courts and other bodies they hoped would rule in their favor. Its subsidiary pointed out that it has a license issued by the MGA and that Norway is part of the European Economic Area and should respect the obligations undertaken. However, the regulatory body indicated that its status is compatible with EEA rules and that it has the right to require offshore operators offering real money casino games in their territory to be licensed with a license issued by them.

Then there were several twists that went in favor of Lotteri- og stiftelsestilsynet. For example, they were authorized to impose daily penalties on the operation of Unibet and other online casinos from the group. These penalties cost around $120,000 daily and are not based on the company’s revenue in Norway in the previous year. As mentioned, the estimated revenue was about $40 million.

After a month of this decision being made in September 2022, Kindred managed to pause the decision. However, in 2023, they faced the same penalties again and decided to leave Norway entirely on 1 January 2024.

This was not the only reason to make such a decision. In addition, Norway has banned advertising so-called illegal casinos in public. The regulatory body has also been given the power to block domains that do not comply with its decisions and is still trying to work with Norwegian customers. Finally, in an agreement with the banks, payments to and from unlicensed offshore online casinos were blocked.

Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong

Is this fair? The answer depends on several things. The fact that every European country can insist on licenses is not unusual. Still, greater harmonization of the regulation is needed. The cost of the licenses should not be too different (considering the market potential), and there should not be other criteria for granting licenses.

Norway is not part of the EU, and that plays a role in this matter even though within the European Union itself, there are drastic differences in online gambling regulation from country to country.

One can say that this showdown was focused exclusively on the Kindred Group, which until now was present with several brands in this market — Unibet, Mariacasino, Bingo, and Storspiller. However, the decision does not apply only to this company and its products.

On the contrary, many other well-known brand names were affected, such as Betsson, ComeOn, Bet365, Nordicbet, and Betsafe. According to initial information, they will all withdraw from the Norwegian market.

Time will tell if they are right. However, initially, they want to send a message that they disagree with how this was carried out. Second, there are concerns about the cost of licenses and other costs associated with operating legally in this Scandinavian country.

We think it will take some time for the impressions to settle. There is enough data on how profitable the Norwegian market is. There are also numerous analyses of what can be expected from it. We think most operators will return after making a good plan and calculations. After all, the latest predictions are that companies in this sector will reach a revenue of over 738 million dollars by 2027.

]]>
Since the latest model of the iPhone smartphone went on sale in September, some users have complained the devices are getting too hot to touch. According to Apple, a bug in its iOS 17 operating system and updates to some apps caused the new iPhone 15s to overheat — but on the other side they also claimed that changes to third-party apps are “causing them to overload the system”.

iPhone users have come to expect their devices to become hotter during the initial set-up or when they are being backed up, due to the amount of processing power being used and the handset working overtime — but these issues with the iPhone 15 have been worse.

Users took to social media to complain the new phones were searing.

Apple said that the device may feel warmer in the first few days “after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity.”

Among the apps blamed for the iPhone 15 heating are Instagram, Uber, and the video game Asphalt 9, according to Apple. Instagram already fixed the issue with its app last week.

Apple stressed that the warming phones are not related to the new titanium casing that houses the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of the stainless steel used on older smartphones.

It also dismissed speculation that the overheating problem had anything to do with the new USB-C port that allowed it to comply with a mandate issued by European regulators.

How Corporate Laws Are Framed in Netherlands https://pctechmag.com/2023/01/how-corporate-laws-are-framed-in-netherlands/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 13:08:14 +0000 https://pctechmag.com/?p=66939 There are various reasons why companies prefer the Netherlands as their location for their businesses.  Apart from corporate…

The post How Corporate Laws Are Framed in Netherlands appeared first on PC Tech Magazine.

]]>
There are various reasons why companies prefer the Netherlands as their location for their businesses.  Apart from corporate tax benefits in the EU, the presence of a large talent pool and hassle free company incorporation are also attractive reasons why the Netherlands is turning out to be a location of choice.

A company formation in Netherlands can be done by one or more members. If one member becomes incapacitated due to some reason or the other, for instance, the other members can take over the management of the company.

A co-operative is made up of members of staff who can leave without threatening its existence. This is different from a commercial partnership (vof) where partners aren’t allowed to leave.

The control of a co-operative in Netherlands is the responsibility of the general meeting of members (GMM) or the Algemene Ledenvergadering (ALV) in Dutch. One of the roles of the ALV is to appoint a board to manage the company’s affairs.

How to Start a Company in Netherlands

When you start a company in Netherlands with one or more members, you will get a civil-law notary to draft a deed for setting up the company. The notary will be required to register the company in the Dutch Business Register (Handelsregister).

Keep in mind that all partners will be required to get registered in the business register. But if you’re acting on behalf of the company before it gets registered, note that you’re personally liable.

Maybe you run a company in the Netherlands or you would like to have a company re-domiciliation to the Netherlands. If you intend to do the latter, you may assume that you need to register the company at the Netherlands chamber of commerce (KVK). However, that’s not necessary for a branch because the foreign legal structure is recognized in the Netherlands.

If you‘d like to have an independent subsidiary of your foreign company, you’ll be required to register a Dutch legal structure at KVK.

Complying With the Foreign and Dutch Law

When registering businesses in Netherlands, note that the incorporation principle applies. That means that a foreign company must abide by the Dutch law and the law of its home country. Foreign law helps with the determination of the following:

  • Liability
  • The rules of incorporation
  • The rules of representation
  • The rules of terminating a business
  • The structure of the partnership like the duties and rights of directors

Thus, it’s important that you check the foreign rules with an expert in a foreign country such as a civil-law notary or the government. In this case, the Dutch law determines the rules that a company must adhere to in their operations.

The Requirements for Formally Foreign Companies

Do you operate a foreign company outside the European Economic Area? Could it also be that you have no real connection with the county the company was founded in?

Do you only do businesses in Netherlands? If that’s the case, apart from the information provided to the business register when registering a company in Netherlands, you must also comply with the formal foreign companies act. This law determines that your company must file the following documents each year with the Netherlands chamber of commerce:

  • An extract from the foreign register
  • Yearly accounts under the Dutch law
  • Yearly accounts under the foreign law

Benefits of Utilizing the Foreign Legal Structure

  1. Foreign legal institutions are sometimes easy and cheap to set up. That’s when compared to the Dutch legal structures where you’ll need the services of a civil-law notary.
  2. It gives you the knowledge needed to abide by company laws in your country of incorporation
  3. A lot of foreign companies get accepted as legal institutions in Netherlands by the chamber of commerce.

Costs Of Doing Businesses in Netherlands

If you register a company in Netherlands, you’ll be required to pay notary costs. A one-time registration fee at the Netherlands chamber of commerce and administration will need to be paid as notary costs. The costs for a civil-law notary range between $486.82 and $ 973.64.

There are also the costs for keeping records that you’ll be required to pay. A company must file annual accounts and deposit with the Netherlands chamber of commerce. The information for submission will be dependent on the size of the company. As for the annual administration costs, they will range between $584.42 and $1,752.89.

Taxes

Your company’s profits will consist of two parts. The first part is accredited to the activities of the members. Members with a sole proprietorship are required to pay an income tax on the profit received from the company.

The Dutch Tax and Customs Administration only considers an entrepreneur if they have clients. If the proportion to the activities of the members (Verlengstuk Winst) is paid to those who participate within a bv, the company will have to pay corporate income tax.

If the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration considers you as an entrepreneur for income tax, you will be entitled to an SME profit exemption. If you meet the hours criterion, you will be entitled to even more corporate tax benefits. The benefits include the private business ownership allowance and retirement reserve.

Liability

A co-operative is a legal entity. This means that its committee members are not liable for any debts. But there are exemptions to this rule such as mismanagement, negligence, or failure to list the company in the Dutch Business Register.

You can agree upon establishment if the committee members are to be held liable. There are three options for you to choose from:

  • A cooperative with excluded liability. A company with excluded liability is where members are not held liable for any debts.
  • A limited liability cooperative. This is a company where members are liable for debts up to the agreed amount.
  • A cooperative with legal liability. This is a company where members are equal and jointly liable for the company’s shortcomings.

When you register a company in the Netherlands, you’re supposed to arrange the liability of the members. Do you, for instance, prefer a company with excluded liability? If that’s the case, you must record it in the articles of association.

If you choose a cooperative with legal liability or a limited liability company, either of the company’s board will have to provide a list of members to the Netherlands chamber of commerce each year. This will enable creditors to know who to get their money from.

Conclusion

You may be interested in the benefits that come with working as a collective, such as pooling your marketing efforts. In that case, the options will be to create a legal entity in the form of a co-operative. Here, members will be able to enter or leave the co-operative without jeopardizing its continued existence.

A co-operative society also offers great benefits compared to a private or public limited company. One of the benefits is the flexibility that comes with co-operatives as they are not bound by a lot of mandatory law provisions. This makes it possible to shape the co-operative in a way that suits your business.

The Netherlands is a choice of registering and running a successful business venture for many due to the multitude of benefits the country offers.  This article has outlined the various corporate laws in the Netherlands and hopefully helps your decision to create a successful business there.

The European Commission ruled airlines can provide 5G technology on board planes, alongside slower mobile data.

This could mean flyers will no longer be required to put their phone on airplane or flight mode – though the specifics of how it will be implemented are unclear.

The deadline for member states to make the 5G frequency bands available for planes is 30 June 2023.

This will mean people can use all their phones’ features mid-flight – enabling calls as well as data-heavy apps that stream music and video.

The EU Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said the plan would “enable innovative services for people” and help European companies grow.

“The sky is no longer a limit when it comes to possibilities offered by super-fast, high-capacity connectivity,” he said.

The EU Commission has reserved certain frequency bands for aircraft since 2008, allowing some services to offer mid-air internet access.

But this service has been historically slow, as it relied on equipment to connect people via a satellite between the aeroplane and the ground.

The new system will be able to take advantage of the much faster download speeds provided by 5G, which according to mobile network EE can be over 100Mbps – enabling a film to be downloaded in just a few minutes.

Chief Executive of the UK Flight Safety Committee Dai Whittingham said that airplane mode was historically important due to a lack of knowledge about how mobile devices affect aircraft. “There was a concern they could interfere with automatic flight control systems,” he said.

He added “what has been found with experience is the risk of interference is very small. The recommendation has always been that once you are in flight, devices should be in airplane mode.”

There has been a concern in the US that 5G frequencies could interfere with flights, and even potentially lead to erroneous altitude measurements. But Whittingham said this is not an issue in the UK and the EU.

“There is much less prospect of interference,” he said, “We have a different set of frequencies for 5G, and there are lower power settings than those that have been allowed in the US.

“The travelling public wants 5G. The regulators will open up that possibility, but there will be steps that will be taken to ensure that whatever they do is safe.”

The head of Flight Operations at the UK Civil Aviation Authority – the regulator responsible for the safety of aircraft within the UK Glenn Bradley said the use of mobile phones to make calls is prohibited on UK airlines, unless the aircraft has been “equipped with an approved mobile phone control system”.

“We understand that plans to enable 5G onboard flights will operate in the higher frequency bands and therefore won’t interfere with aircraft systems, we stand ready to work with the industry to assist the delivery of this innovation.” he said.

Bitcoin trading in Georgia has been progressing steadily since the cryptocurrency was first introduced to the country in 2014. Despite some early setbacks, such as the closure of two major exchanges in 2015, the number of Georgians trading bitcoin has continued to grow. You can also explore the bitcoin loophole for gaining information about bitcoin trading.

As of September 2017, there were approximately 3,000 active bitcoin traders in Georgia, according to data from the Bitcoin Association of Georgia. This is a significant increase from the 1,000 traders that were active in 2016.

The majority of bitcoin trading in Georgia is conducted through LocalBitcoins, a peer-to-peer (P2P) platform that allows users to buy and sell bitcoin without the need for a central exchange.

In addition to LocalBitcoins, there are also a number of other P2P platforms and exchanges that allow Georgians to trade bitcoin. These include BitFinance, BTC-E, and Kraken.

Bitcoin trading in Georgia is also facilitated by a number of Bitcoin ATMs that have been installed in the country. As of September 2017, there were eight Bitcoin ATMs in operation in Georgia, according to CoinATMradar.com.

The growth of Bitcoin trading in Georgia is likely to continue as more people become aware of the cryptocurrency and its potential benefits. With the addition of new exchanges and ATMs, it will become even easier for Georgians to buy and sell bitcoin.

Role of Bitcoin Trading in Georgia

The Republic of Georgia is a country located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. The country has a population of around 3.7 million people and a land area of about 69,700 square kilometers. The capital city of Tbilisi is the largest city in the country with a population of around 1.5 million people. The official language of Georgia is Georgian, however, Russian and English are also widely spoken in the country.

Georgia has a long history of commerce and trade. In fact, the country was once part of the Silk Road, which was a network of trade routes that connected China to the Mediterranean Sea. Today, Georgia is still an important transit country for goods traveling between Asia and Europe.

One of the most recent developments in Georgia is the use of Bitcoin for trading and commerce. Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that can be used for online payments. Bitcoin is not subject to any central authority, making it a popular choice for those who want to avoid government regulation or inflation.

Georgia has been a leader in adopting Bitcoin and blockchain technology. The country has even launched its own cryptocurrency, called the LariCoin. The LariCoin is pegged to the Georgian national currency, the lari.

Bitcoin trading first began in Georgia in 2013 on the LocalBitcoins platform. Since then, the number of Bitcoin traders in Georgia has grown rapidly. In 2017, there were an estimated 3,000-4,000 Bitcoin users in the country.

Future of Bitcoin Trading in Georgia

As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, so does the way we trade Bitcoin. In Georgia, Bitcoin trading is still in its early stages, but there is a lot of potential for growth. Here are some of the things that could happen in the future of Bitcoin trading in Georgia.

  1. More Exchanges Will Open Up

Right now, there are only a handful of exchanges that operate in Georgia. However, as more and more people become interested in Bitcoin trading, we will see more exchanges open up. This will provide more options for traders and make it easier to buy and sell Bitcoin.

  1. Regulation Will Improve

At the moment, there is very little regulation surrounding Bitcoin trading in Georgia. However, as the industry grows, we can expect to see more regulations put in place. This will protect investors and help to create a more stable market.

  1. Trading Will Become More Popular

Currently, only a small percentage of people in Georgia are involved in Bitcoin trading. However, as awareness of Bitcoin grows, we can expect to see more people getting involved. This will lead to a bigger and more liquid market with better prices for everyone involved.

  1. Prices Will Fluctuate Less

Right now, the price of Bitcoin can be quite volatile. This is because the market is still relatively small and there are not enough buyers or sellers to provide stability. However, as the market grows, we can expect prices to become more stable.

  1. More Merchants Will Accept Bitcoin

Currently, there are only a few merchants that accept Bitcoin in Georgia. However, as awareness of Bitcoin grows, we can expect to see more businesses start to accept it. This will make it easier for people to spend their Bitcoin and help to increase its adoption.

The future of Bitcoin trading in Georgia is looking bright. With more exchanges and businesses starting to accept Bitcoin, we can expect to see the market grow significantly in the years to come. This will provide more opportunities for traders and lead to better prices for everyone involved.

Huawei’s CEO Ren Zhengfei has pledged to stick to a globalization strategy despite external pressure. He has called on the new U.S. administration to come up with more open policies that are in the interests of U.S. companies and the U.S. economy as a whole.

These are the first public remarks the founder of Huawei has made since the change of the U.S. administration.

“Trade benefits both sides. Allowing U.S. companies to supply goods to Chinese customers is conducive to their own financial performance. If Huawei’s production capacity expands, U.S. companies could us sell more. It’s a win-win situation. I believe the new administration will weigh these interests as they consider their policies,” said Ren during a press briefing in Taiyuan after launching the Intelligent Mining Innovation Lab.

Ren stated that Huawei creates value to the whole ecosystem and wider economy. He cited the example that Huawei has built 5G networks in many cities in Europe, Asia and Middle East, and its networks in Europe top global network performance tests, benefiting all the users on those networks.

“The fact high-end users can use the iPhone 12 to its fullest effect on our 5G networks in Europe is a testament to the quality of our networks,” said Ren.

“As humanity keeps making progress, no company can develop a globalized industry alone. It requires concerted efforts around the world,” Ren added.

The U.S. Government has been campaigning against Huawei in the past two years alleging Huawei’s equipment could be used to spy on Americans, without presenting any evidence. Huawei has repeatedly denied the claims, and few other countries have given in to U.S. pressure, with most focusing on ensuring all vendors meet technical standards to security.

Ren said he is now even more confident about Huawei’s survival than he was. “We have found new and more ways to overcome our challenges. Our sales revenue and profits in 2020 were higher than the previous years,” Ren told the press.

Enabling digital transformation for industries
Ren said new strategies include research and development and growing deeper roots in vertical industries around the world to enable the digital transformation with its Huawei’s core ICT capabilities. Ren said the Intelligent Mining Innovation Lab would result in better services for mines with 5G.

“By supporting the mining industry, we can grow our business and support more efficient and safer production in mines. We can also enable coal mine workers to ‘wear suits and ties’ at work” Ren said. “In the 5G era, connecting businesses is the main goal. There are many industries that we are not too familiar with, like airports, ports, coal mining, iron and steel production, automotive manufacturing, and aircraft manufacturing. That’s why we built joint labs to learn more about the needs of these industries.”

Huawei’s business results for the first nine months of the year 2020 showed that, revenue totaled 671.3 billion yuan (approximately USD$98.57 billion), up 9.9% from that of the same period in 2019.

“We’ll continue serving our customers well by creating more value for them. We want them to have lasting faith in us, and we hope that they won’t sway because of political pressure,” concluded Ren.

If Facebook thought that 2020 might be the year that the company manages to shake off its disastrous news cycle and start making confident steps into the future, it’s going to have to think again. The Cambridge Analytica scandal has come back to haunt the social media giant yet again — and this time, it may prove to cost them more money in sanctions than ever before.

If you somehow managed to avoid the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal that dominated global news headlines several years ago, here’s a quick recap.

In 2018, a marketing company called; Cambridge Analytica was found to have used Facebook to acquire the personal information of thousands – perhaps even millions — of Facebook users, and use that information to tailor political advertising messages (many of which were misleading)  to the people whose data had been harvested.

None of the Facebook users involved had ever given consent for their information to be used in this way or passed on to third parties, and some people feel that the misuse of the data contributed to the election of Donald Trump in the United States of America, and the decision of the British electorate to leave the European Union.

After the scandal came to light, Facebook was forced to take the blame for their data falling into the hands of Cambridge Analytica in the first place. The company was found to have failed to protect the information that its users had entrusted it with, and a shame-faced Mark Zuckerberg was eventually called upon to testify in front of Congress in the United States of America. Millions of users deleted their Facebook accounts, and the value of the company plummeted by billions of dollars. As scandals go, it was as damaging as any in recent corporate memory.

Facebook has gone to great lengths in an attempt to rehabilitate its image since then. It’s taken out television adverts to tell people that the company has changed its ways. It’s also invested in new products and new industries. Facebook Libra is still trying to gain acceptance into the cryptocurrency market.

High 5 Casino, the company’s officially-approved UK Online Slots provider, has just over one million users. If the company were able to gain a foothold in the casino market and rival specialist online slots websites, it would have a stake in a global industry worth billions of dollars.

As many people who’ve played and lost money playing online slots might tell you, though, sometimes bad luck has a way of following you. Cambridge Analytica is Facebook’s biggest bad luck story ever, and it hasn’t gone away just yet.

The latest development in the saga has happened in Australia, and relates to an app called ‘This Is Your Digital Life.’ If the claims made about the app are true, it’s illegally harvested data from the Facebook profiles of thousands of Australians, and passed that data on to third party marketing companies. ‘This Is Your Digital Life’ is, as those who have followed the story already know, a product created and owned by Cambridge Analytica.

The next part of the story is very familiar — the data then ended up in the hands of advertisers who used it to tailor and direct political advertising to unsuspecting users. It’s the same story as the one we saw in the United States of America and the United Kingdom, and it’s likely to have the same implications for Facebook in Australia as it did in both of those countries. At the time of writing, it’s thought that the digital privacy of up to three hundred thousand Australian nationals may have been breached.

The case, which was lodged with the appropriate authorities in Australia on Monday 9th March, alleges that Facebook has committed ‘serious and repeated’ breaches of Australian privacy and data protection laws, including misrepresenting the reason for the collection of data and distributing the data without consent.

Worryingly for the affected parties, the amount of data collected and distributed is significant. As well as surface data like the names, locations, birth dates, and friends lists of the users, it’s claimed that private Facebook messages were also scraped from the accounts and sent to Cambridge Analytica.

In fairness to Facebook, it’s important to note that these offenses aren’t alleged to have been committed since the original scandal broke elsewhere. The data breaches happened between 2014 and 2015, but authorities are only filing to sue now because they believe Facebook hasn’t co-operated with their inquiry. They say that Facebook has failed to confirm how many Australian users were affected (or specifically which users), and also claim that Facebook’s privacy controls at the time were designed in a way that made it impossible for users to consent to their data being used, or prevent their data from being distributed if they didn’t wish for third parties to have access to it.

Furthermore, the Australian authorities believe that Facebook could reasonably have informed users about the data breach in 2015, but chose not to do so.

At this stage, it’s unclear exactly how many separate breaches of the law Facebook is being charged with other than the fact that multiple charges are to be considered. Each separate breach could result in a maximum fine of USD$1.7 million. In the event that the court decides that all three hundred thousand affected users, the maximum fine could be more than five hundred billion dollars.

In reality, it’s extremely unlikely that a fine so large would even be considered, but given Facebook’s prior admission of wrongdoing in the case of Cambridge Analytica and the resultant likelihood of their guilt in this case, it’s hard not to picture a scenario in which Facebook doesn’t end up paying Australian authorities several hundred million dollars in reparations. This would put it between the UK, which fined the company half a million pounds sterling for the same offense, and the United States of America, which fined them five billion dollars.

Very few companies have the financial resources that Facebook does, and the company has the means to pay a multi-billion dollar fine should they lose in court and be ordered to do so. It would, however, send their stock price tumbling yet again, and heap more pressure onto the shoulders of Mark Zuckerberg.

Given that he’s already made a personal fortune from the company and must be becoming tired of the constant pressure and scrutiny he finds himself under, there must surely be a temptation to step away and let someone else steer the ship.
