It is a few hours to August —and of all things, we should expect something from video on-demand over-the-top streaming services, who will be adding (new and old) TV shows and films to their library this month. The Umbrella Academy fans will be waiting till August 8th on Netflix to watch the final season of the superhero television series, while on August 2nd, Rebel Moon fans will watch Parts 1 and 2 of the Director’s Cut, and if you love Kdramas and Anime, Netflix is adding (Mission Cross, Romance in the House) and (From me to You, Risin Impact) respectively.

Just like Netflix, Amazon’s Prime Video has quite several TV shows and films that they will be adding to their library this month for their watchers —among which include Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy & The Hobbit film trilogy, buddy cop action comedy film; 21 Jump Street (1 and 2), The Superman film series, Mark Herman’s holocaust historical drama film; The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and a pseudo-documentary horror film; The Poughkeepsie Tapes as well as one of my favorites (really! I don’t know why) Stardust. As for kdrama fans (Korean films and dramas have gained so much attention and are loved by many, at least), you get to watch No Gain No Love at the end of the month.

These are just a few Prime Video is adding to their list. The video on-demand over-the-top streaming service is adding movies from way back to 1949 to the current; 2024. The list is pretty much dominated by older movies with the oldest being Sullivan’s Travels; a comedy film about Hollywood director John L. Sullivan who sets out to experience life as a homeless person in order to gain relevant life experience for his next movie. Others include; Little Women (1949), When Worlds Collide (1951), Invaders from Mars (1953), There’s Always Tomorrow (1956), Psycho (1960), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), The Day of the Jackal (1973), Three Days of the Condor (1975), The Warriors (1979), Terms of Endearment (1983), The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988), and Born on the Fourth of July (1989).

So you can dive back —to old school, way before chroma key screens—more commonly known as green screens were extensively like today.

There’s a lot to watch on Amazon Prime Video this month — from action, adventures, romance, sci-fi, and rom-com, and if you are a Kdrama fan, watch The Tale of the Nine-Tailed (on Oct. 7th), a fantasy series about an over 1000-year-old mythical nine-tailed fox, or gumiho and the former guardian mountain spirit of Baekdu-daegan working to eradicate supernatural beings that threaten the mortal world. However, his real aim is to find the reincarnation of his lost first love.

In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.

Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Watch Gal Gadot (as Diana Prince) in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 and if you love animations, there’s Tom and Jerry; Kayla is responsible for organizing a high-profile wedding in a fancy hotel. But when Jerry, a mischievous mouse, wreaks havoc in the hotel, she enlists his arch-rival (Tom, the Cat) help to get rid of him.
