MTN Uganda CEO, Ms. Sylvia Mulinge, on Friday delivered an inspiring and impactful speech at the MTN ICT Expo 2024, centered around the theme “Accelerating Business Transformation with Digital Technology.” Her address highlighted the urgent need for organizations to embrace digital transformation in a world marked by uncertainty and complexity.

Here are key takeaways from her remarks;

Embracing digital transformation

Mulinge acknowledges the myriad challenges faced by organizations today, particularly in the IT sector. She stated, “If I were to ask you what keeps you awake at night, it’s probably how to ensure that your organizations remain safe.”

She emphasized that the current global landscape is fraught with crises, making it essential for businesses to adopt innovative technologies. This era demands resilience against cyber threats while maintaining service uptime amid economic pressures.

“In a world that is increasingly complex, we want to be seen as a partner in solving the challenges you face today,” she remarked, underscoring MTN’s commitment to supporting businesses through digital solutions.

The role of technology

In her remarks, Mulinge focused on how technology can bridge existing inequalities and enhance operational efficiency. She noted the importance of leveraging digital tools to improve service quality for both small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and larger corporate entities.

By digitizing operations, businesses can automate processes, thereby enhancing service delivery and customer interactions.

Mulinge expressed gratitude for the government’s support in creating a digital transformation roadmap, which she views as vital for driving progress in the country. “With the support of government and our partners, we believe we can help you achieve a competitive edge for the organizations you lead,” she stated.

Opportunities for collaboration

Mulinge further called for collaboration among various stakeholders, including government entities, corporate institutions, and technology partners, highlighting the potential for digitizing payment systems to improve transparency and efficiency in financial transactions.

“How can we help you enhance your connections by embracing cashless and digital ecosystems?” she asked, encouraging attendees to consider the benefits of digital solutions.

Recognizing that many organizations struggle with the concept of digital transformation—often viewing it as solely the responsibility of IT departments—Mulinge urged leaders to take a proactive approach to integrating digital solutions across all levels of their organizations.

“Many times, I know organizations view digital transformation as the responsibility of the IT department,” she noted, reinforcing the idea that it is a collective responsibility.

MTN Uganda has been a crucial driver of digital transformation in the country, with substantial investments in infrastructure, innovation, and partnerships.
